Welcome to the The Soapbox. We are trying to accomplish something no one has been able to accomplish yet, awareness of issues we face today. This does seem an impossible task right now but we think this was key in the world we live in.
Debate & diplomacy are at the core of our democracy and our relationship with the world. What is a debate? A debate is defined as an argument, a dispute or a deliberation. Typically, a debate begins behind some sort of passion. Two people have a large amount of energy and emotion fueling their words. Passion is a powerful force for accomplishing goals in life, but it can also block your window of understanding. If you only look through one side of a window, you only see one view.
What is diplomacy? Diplomacy is defined in the most simplistic terms as international affairs. When nations collide in ideological differences or battle over resources the result may demand a diplomatic solution.
Politics have always been the largest driving force in the world. Those in charge dictate what happens, who it happens to and what will happen to everyone else. It is the very core of where the world stands today and where it may end up tomorrow.
Politics affect everyone, whether they’d like to believe it or not. And yet, there seems to be a troubling pattern among people claiming to be “non-political,” an entirely implausible notion in this day and age. It shapes our world and daily activities, freedoms and privileges. We are trying to provide a spot before you vote to understand what your voting for, a force for truth a force for what the political industry has needed for years transparency.
Meaning and History of “Soapbox”
Throughout its history, soapboxing has been tied to the right to speak. From the period 1907 to approximately 1916, the Industrial Workers of the World conducted dozens of free speech fights in the United States, particularly in the West and the Northwest, in order to protect or reclaim their right to soapbox.
A soapbox is a raised platform on which one stands to make an impromptu speech, often about a political subject. The term originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally used for shipment of soap, or other dry goods, from a manufacturer to a retail store.
The term is also used metaphorically to describe a person engaging in often flamboyant, impromptu, or unofficial public speaking, as in the phrase, “Get off your soapbox.” Hyde Park in London is known for its Sunday soapbox orators, who have assembled at its Speakers’ Corner since 1872 to discuss religion, politics, and other topics. Blogs can be used as soapboxes within the context of the World Wide Web, and are often used for promotional purposes.
